What is GATEway?

GATEway, Glenfield's Gifted and Talented Enrichment program, offers academically gifted seventh and eighth grade students a selection of activities to complement, supplement, and enhance the district curriculum. GATEway students are expected to be mature, self-motivated, task-oriented, and producers of knowledge.

There is no registration fee to join the GATEway program. There are fees, however, for the courses and any related activities. The fees cover materials, expenses, and instructional time. The Glenfield GATEway program receives no funding from the Montclair Public School District. Courses and activities depend on tuitions from student enrollment. Courses may be cancelled due to low enrollment or at the discretion of the directors. Scholarship availability is extremely limited for mini courses and activities.

Student Eligibility

Students become eligible for GATEway at the end of their 6th grade year. Starting with the 2017-2018 school year, sixth grade students will also be invited to join the program after the second marking period. Students must earn “Honor Roll” distinction at least one time in the school year to be eligible for GATEway. Sixth grade students who do not meet the Honor Roll distinction in the first half of the year will be reconsidered for the following school year given they met the requirements in the second half of the year.

Food Allergies

Please speak with the instructor directly to speak about any food allergies your child has, if they are interested in taking a course that involves food or food preparation.

Signing up for GATEway Courses

GATEway course registration and payment is done through SignUpGenius.

Website will be posted in the fall.

Refund Policy

Course fees may be refunded in the event a course does not reach its minimum enrollment or at the discretion of the directors. Refunds are not given for absence from a GATEway class.

Pick-Up Procedure

Students will be escorted to the front door of the building at 4:10 pm. Please have transportation arrangements planned prior to dismissal and be prompt in picking up your child. The instructor is required to stay with all students until they are dismissed to a parent/guardian.

Class Schedule and Cancellations

All efforts are made for classes to run on the planned dates. Occasionally, class sessions must be postponed or rescheduled. Any class changes will be announced over the school PA system in advance. Every effort will be made to communicate cancellations/postponements through SignUpGenius, as well. All classes will meet for the number of sessions listed in the course catalog.

SAT Testing

GATEway students, along with their families, may choose to take the SAT test while still in middle school. An informational packet on the SAT can be requested from Ms. Kondreck. If you and your child decide to enroll in SAT testing, please contact the GATEway directors so your student can be recognized and highlighted for his/her achievement.
