June Events

Dear Parents/Guardians,

June is a month brimming with lots of events, presentations, and exciting end-of-year activities. I wanted to highlight just a few.

In an ongoing effort to provide students, staff, parents/guardians and the community with social-emotional learning, please join us Wednesday, June 5 from 6 to 9 PM at Renaissance School for BOUNCE’s IRL event. This evening for high schoolers, young adults, and parents offering mental health tools and advice to help all feel connected to a caring community is sure to be a crowd pleaser. An amazing group of speakers will be featured, and they are ready to provide expert guidance for dealing with all sorts of life stressors and building resilience. This event includes live music, food, and more, and we hope to see you there.

Cornerstone Montclair is providing an opportunity for you to come together with the community to talk about and discuss thoughts and feelings about whatever may be troubling you. In the safety of Cornerstone Montclair, local therapists and coaches will facilitate a discussion and support the community. You are not alone in how you feel. This event is free of charge and open to the first 25 people who respond.

On Tuesday, June 11 from 7 to 9 PM at Hillside School’s Auditorium parents/guardians are invited to attend a presentation on Harassment, Intimidation, and Bullying (HIB) given by David Nash, the Legal One Director of New Jersey Principals and Supervisors Association and Foundation for Educational Administration. This presentation will provide you with the essential knowledge and details of the HIB process, how schools handle these claims, confidentiality parameters, and your due process rights. There will be time for questions and answers. I encourage your attendance and appreciate your support as we work together in promoting safe school environments.

Summer is almost here. Don’t forget to sign up for one of the Montclair Public Schools’ Summer Enrichment Camps at the Information Fair on Saturday, June 15 from 1 to 4 PM at C.H. Bullock School. See the flyer for details.

Lastly, Succeed2gether will offer a workshop for high school seniors on Monday, June 17 from 7 to 9 PM at the Community Services Center (11 Pine St., Montclair) to help ease the transition to college. Presenters include three social workers/psychologists and MHS alumni will be on hand to give tips about navigating the college process. A $5 registration fee is required. Free pizza will be served. Students who participate in the FARMs program are not required to pay the registration fee.

A special acknowledgement is extended to the Montclair village who willingly organizes and delivers high-quality programming for students, families and the community.  We are incredibly fortunate to be in a community with such amazing people, resources and agencies.  We are beyond thankful and appreciative.

Enjoy your day!

Note:  My June Superintendent's Letter will be sent later this week.

In equity, access, social justice and opportunity,

Dr. Kendra V. Johnson, Superintendent
